RETIME
Human and man-made disasters have a great impact on urban environments, which is compounded by climate change, rapid urbanization and the difficulties related to long-term city planning.
RETIME explores how to make cities more resilient to climate change and raise awareness among urban residents, taking into account local risks, strategies, and the needs of vulnerable groups. Digital and technological approaches are tested as potential solutions to current gaps in crisis prevention and preparedness.
One of the three RETIME pilot areas is the city center of Tartu (the other two are located in Portugal and Slovakia). A digital twin will be created of the selected pilot apartment building and various technological solutions will be deployed during the project, e.g. sensor-based notification systems. IBS’s role in the project is to help set up and implement the Tartu pilot case and to ensure that local (climate) conditions, threats, and the needs of Tartu city and its population are taken into account throughout the project.
