Sarah Kruusmaa

Analyst



Sarah has been working as an analyst at the Institute of Baltic Studies since 2024, focusing on integration, education, and crisis preparedness.

She has a diverse background in research, teaching, journalism, and international relations and has lived and worked in four different countries, including Kazakhstan and Georgia. Sarah studied history at Tallinn University and international security at Sciences Po.

Her research interests include the history of former Soviet states and the impact of domestic political challenges on their foreign policy ambitions. She is also interested in how crises and disruptions impact governance and the economy, particularly the role of the black market. In connection to this, Sarah has studied the economics of hunting in societies experiencing food insecurity.

In her free time, Sarah enjoys slow travel, introducing her daughter to the world through books and new places, and spending time in nature. She values good company, great food, and engaging discussions.
